When is the wisteria season at Lake Como
Lake Como is gorgeous at any time of the year to explore its fantastic mountain views and pretty streets. Yet, wisteria unveils the beauty of its gardens, marvelous villas and restaurants.
Starting in mid-April, even earlier, wisteria tenderly frames incredible lake views. The best way to know when the blooms start is to check out the Instagram profile of @villacipressi. I was lucky to have an awesome sunny day, so I match the wisteria with my purple dress.
Bursting with plenty of hiking trails and places to visit, Lake Como would take a month to visit it properly. If you read that late April starts the blooms, usually by this time it’s already fading away.

Varenna- the prettiest town with wisteria shine
Varenna is such a treasure to explore with plenty of sights in view. This lovely town is the best place to base yourself at the lake. Firstly, you’ll be cozy to see numerous sights at your doorstep. Secondly, the train station is very close to the central Verona. Enjoying the beach in Verona feels so smooth and easy to reach.
Two wonderful villas, lying next to each other, unfold the marvelous feelings of serenity and allure.
Visiting the Hotel Royal Victoria adds to the incredible wisteria allure as you enjoy the magical spring vibes. You can come to relax with a coffee, drink or meal and admiring the smooth petals falling with the view.
When you’re in Varenna, don’t miss the opportunity to climb towards the Castello di Vezio. It’s a short 30-minute walk that will take you to the exquisite views. With the medieval vibes, you will have a feeling to be in a movie set around Lake Como.

Villa Cipressi
Admiring the abundant wisteria at Villa Cipressi is a story full of different nuances of purple. With the beautiful gardens strolling around, the fairy tale can start.
The doors full of wisteria with the lake view are very popular for Instagram photos. Villa Cipressi is a hotel with royal vibes, set in a historical mansion. Medium in size, this enchanting garden tells the story of the royal lake. Offering incredible views of the lake, Villa Cipressi is a picture postcard to witness.
You can get one ticket for both villas, costing 15€. Visiting only Villa Cipressi is 8€.

Villa Monastero
Adjacent to Villa Cipressi stretches the wonderful pathway of Villa Monastero. Following the elegant fountain and columns, you’ll reach the lovely terrace with the wisteria.

Bellaggio- where wisteria bursts from the distance
You don’t have to visit Bellaggio to see wisteria, you can admire the lush purple flowers from the ferry. The charming Hotel Florence sits right at the shore near the ferry port.
Enjoying the sunset by the mountains while sipping your drink is a magnificent way to enjoy the wisteria. You’ll almost embrace the wisteria at this stunning restaurant with a view.

Menaggio
The lovely Menaggio, on the other shore of Varenna, is another fantastic base to explore the lake.
Hotel Bellavista where I stayed, will offer you a cozy and peaceful room for only 150€ for the night. Relaxing at the swimming pool by the lake with wisteria in sight sounds perfect. You don’t have to stay in the hotel to see the wisteria blooms. Visiting the restaurant is an excellent option to take a sneak peek.

Tramezzo- more than a double elegance of the wisteria
All over Tramezzo, wisteria shows its shine following the route to Lenno, depicting two beautiful villas.
Villa Carlotta
Of course, you don’t have to enter Villa Carlotta to see the stunning wisteria. A few years ago, I visited in the autumn, but I would recommend the spring. Taking the ferry all over the lake is a fantastic way to experience its beauty.
Villa Carlotta hosts a charming botanical garden that extends at the large area of 17m2. Famous for its azaleas and rhododendrons, Villa Carlotta dwells with the artistic vibes of the roses, citruses, camellias and more.
Right in front of the Villa Carlotta, you’ll see the lovely wisteria tunnel stretching along the lakefront. Offering awesome photo opportunities, relaxing in this elegant vibe is inevitable.

Villa Balbianello- Lenno
Another enchanting villa of the lake is probably the most beautiful one. Located a bit uphill, the stunning views burst from its gorgeous terraces. Framed by wisteria, the views at Villa Balbianello are just breathtaking.
You can easily reach Villa Balbianello by ferry and a bus from Menaggio (there’s a 20-minute walk after). To enter the gardens, it costs 14€ where fairy tale vibes await.

Final thoughts
Lake Como awakens the allure of spring when wisteria starts to bloom. With the wonderful views, it’s a stunning experience to feel the royal vibes and take incredible photos.
There are several other places to see wisteria, if you have some extra time to widen the storybook of wisteria. Cernobbio is a lovely town close to Como where wisteria sparks the spring in the restaurant II Glicine. Wandering around Como town to Villa Olmo will let you sparkle with more wisteria charm.
Lake Como is truly a wisteria paradise that will take you into the enchantment of these purple flowers.
