That fairy-tale feeling, where’s it awaken the most? Is it the magical nature or cobblestone romantic streets of some foreign town? Or the castles? I haven’t visited much of them, but the question keeps popping up in my head: „Where will I?“ Specially considering the newly creating situation regarding the Coronavirus, I have to admit that the time flies so quickly.
1. The castles in your surroundings
There are those castles that are located in your surroundings.
Known as the village of wine or officially the little town, Kutjevo shines with one of the most elegant castles in the area. Even though it is renovated recently, the wonder stays in the air why it’s not open for the public. There are those castles that could be renovated and serving as workshop areas, children’s place of vacation and even more.
The castle Trakošćan, one of the most imposant castles in Croatia is the dream of many. This opportunity is fulfilled to me by hiking through the colourful hills of Ravna Gora. The castle which is surrounded by the artificial lake is also decorated by the fairy path. It’s the reason to come back and dicover the new side of the castle.
The Summer writing school in the castle
Once I went to the Summer writing school which took the position in the castle of the mountainous area of Croatia. As it is also the place where children enjoy the time off, the profound vibration is felt inside. Can you imagine the fantasy beeing created? Another year the location is changed, but we wanted back our castle. It was succeded.
2. The fairy-tale castles
Castles in Germany, what a fantasy. Neuschweinstein castle is the most popular but the whole palette around it makes the question: „How is it possible?“ This instagram account makes me dream even more as you can yourself become a fairy.
If you’re nicely dressed with the magic in your eyes, your wanderlust will seek the moments like these, will seek to be creative in the middle of the fairy-tale. It’s the point of perspective, isn’t it? Till then I will keep on dreaming how and where to catch the proper wanderlust. These are the type of fairy-tale castles.
3. Castles in Romania- the mysterious type of castles
There are those castles so misterious that only the story about them is so inviting. Whether Dracula existed or not, more than 10 castles deserve the attention in Romania. Since I couldn’t join my mountaineering group into Rodopi and castles of Romania few years ago, I still dream about it.
4. The royal castles – Loire Valley
Castles in Loire Valley are the special story, more than 300 castles exist here so I will have to give the special task to visit some of them. That’s a pure fairy-tale.
5. Underrated but popular castles
Hidden but popular castles like Pena Palace in Portugal is something that amazes even more alive, something that used to be a hidden gem of Sintra but now it’s very popular. Their speciality is the height that makes them almost unreachable. Whole Sintra town is full od castles, I’m so glad that I visited most of them.
6. The castles with magic gardens
There are those castles set in the scenery of magic gardens. Castle Trauttmansdorf in Merano is the place where austrian princess Elisabeth or Sissi lived, place that was announced few times as the most beautiful gardens in Italy.
Even some castles in the surroundings are set as little hostels with the magnifiscient views of the castle Trauttmansdorf. I was lucky to stay there once, even more lucky that it’s only 20 minutes by foot from the downtown Merano. It’s also the scenic opportunity to explore other castles in the area like the one in Scena.
Have you ever made the castle your accomodation? Tell me in the comments.
7. Invented castles
The castles that are invented castles, with their beautiful decorations are serving as the hostels. That has been my choice at Gili Trawangan near Bali. What a feeling! Not only that it looks like a castle, but you can jump from the bridge in the pool, do the artificial wall climbing or just have a party near the fantastic pool.
Final thoughts
What kind of castles do you prefer? I am sure that any of them will entitle the wave of enchantment and wisdom, the way to live in more elegant way.

It’s worth to visit castles, gives you the vibe of being transported to a previous era. Here in Cyprus there are several castles. One memorable moment is watching an opera, a play by Shakespeare staged in one of the castles here. And yes I will still visit castles whenever I can. Hope I can visit to Croatia in the future.

Wow, they’re all so beautiful. It’s crazy to me that that’s someone’s house, or at least it was at some point even if they’re not now. I love the one in Portugal but also the one in Germany which is a little bit odd as they’re so different x
