Who prefers to travel in winter over summer like me? Trading the european winter for tropical destinations is my favourite escape. While staying at the croatian seaside during the summer job sounds so dreamy, still I miss the soft months of June and September to truly explore the mountains, valleys and secluded beaches.
Avoiding the crowds is always my choice though cannot really fulfill it sometimes. In that sense staying few month absorbing the island life is the perfect way to enjoy the beach. Probably I would do it the same without the summer job.
The mountain peace of the summer time would be a relaxing reward, also because of the wheather.
Choosing the nearby destinations becomes pretty astonishing in the light of Covid time.
The bucket list of June:
Provence- France
The lavender fields starting in the middle of June are not the only reason. It’s about the amazing colourful places, charming villages and wonderful beaches that make Provence my dream. Hopefully it will come to happen next year.
The seaside magic awaits while the crowds are not still so strong and time more quiet appears.
Germany
Whether in June or May I just want to see the full beauty of castles and mountain views. When Sun shines it touches the hearts, not only the landscape.
Hidden gorges and lake that blend with the mountains jut enchant with the idea to be absorbed around.
Greece
When bougenvilla rules, it cannot be left out. When the temperatures are lower and easier to hike or walk around, Greece stays the dream of blue. Greece is also an ideal sailing destination.
Island life is my way to go and favourite way to pick up a destination. With treasure of choice in Greece it just waits to be bathed with the sunsets.
The bucket list of July and August:
Italy
Italy is magical always and totally a synonim of romance. Its history is full of hidden misteries where places like Sicily deserve the special title.
The dreamy mountains and lakes of Trentino Alto Adige, the fabulous landscape of Tucany and its southern corners of Puglia are not the only doors to cross. Italian lakes weave the unique beauty, Rome stays the eternal city and Venice holds the shine.
Spain & Portugal
Which one to choose first?
The elegant beauty of Andalucia featuring Sevilla primarily competes with the the entire Portugal. Though Algarve won my heart, it still needs to be explored.
The special attention goes to the islands inviting me hiddenly from Mallorca to Tenerife and Madeira again.
The spiritual rejunevation
Yoga near the beach, uplifting spirit of togethernes invites even without the call- has always been my reason number one to explore the places. Even the nothern places from Denmark till Sweden stay the perfect choice of summer time.
The mountains are calling and I must go
So many hikes I missed while working during the summer like bulgarian lakes, Macedonia, Romania feat. touristic tour of its castles, Albania with the fabulous Skadar lake. Of course, organized with the mountaineering club.
While it’s all stopped during the Covid time, definitely the list is numerous.
Specially dreamy is the combination of mountains and lakes like unbeatable beauty of Slovenia & Soča valley, Austria, Dolomiti, Germany, Switzerland. Even the winter and snow will await you there. My experiences of Olympus mountains you can read here.
Final thoughts
Bursting with travel choice you can create a perfect itinerary during one month in Europe, even less. Staying longer at one place will awaken the mermaid in you. The true vacation deserves quiet places and hidden corners.

Before we had our daughter we always used to travel in May and June as the weather was much cooler then. Now we have to travel in July and August which rules out a lot of southern Europe as it’s too hot for me. Not sure where we’d like to travel next, we’ve been happy with staycations for the last couple of years, luckily!

Wow looks like some incredible traveling!

I love Europe whether it is in the Summer of Fall. Fall gives plenty of fabulous colorful photos with changing leaves and less tourist traffic, and Summer offers longer day time hours to explore.

I just love Europe so much! Originally from Manchester, I appreciate it so much more now that I live in Australia, as opposed to having it right on my doorstep. Italy in July is beautiful, but for me, it’s too crowded. I’ve visited in October, and although very busy, it wasn’t as bad. However, is there ever a bad time to visit Italy? LOL! I’ve only visited Province in France briefly but would love to go back and drive through the lavender fields. Then there’s Strasbourg, which just looks like something straight out of a fairytale. I could go on, as there are so many places that I love in Europe. I hope you get to tick somewhere new off your bucket list next summer 🙂
