Though Salzburg is 2h away, these places are so picturesque and calm. It seems that in Obertauern every house is a hotel, the ski pistes look so harsh but nature bursts in every season. Obertauern is a small place where only one grocery shop exists but wandering around is so rewarding.
Radstadt is a nearest town with the big supermarkets and dm, only 30 minutes away. Radstadt also holds a train station and Obertauern not.

Obertauern- a pretty mountainous town in Austria
Typical Austrian town is a place where painted houses cheer up the life embraced by the mountains. The food in few restaurants is a bit pricey here.
You’ll wonder what the Beatles did here and how their statues got in the villages and on the piste? The film Help was partly shot here in 1965.
Once they made a private concert in one hotel so their role in glorifying the village deserves thousand stars.
The most amazing viewpoint in the town is near the restaurant Dikt’n’Alm. The viewpoint installations are  here for everyone to take pictures.
The dreamiest hotel with the outdoor pool is the boutique hotel Kohlmayr.
Johaness waterfall is a bit out of the village with its adventurous points in every season.
Radstadt- a small historic town in Salzurgerland
Radstadt is a small town, not much of big attractions here but lovely viewpoint to the mountains. The castle dominates so enjoy the medieval vibes. It’s a historic town in the Pongau region. Radstadt lies in the heart of the most fancy skiing places near Salzburg. The fact is that Radstadt itself doesn’t own many skii pistes.
The towers of the Hexenturm, Kapuzinerturm and Teichturm remain as the testimony of the 13th century and time of fortifications.
Kapuzinerkirche is surrounded by the Town Museum where you can learn about the history of Radstadt.
Scenic mountains around Radstadt
The surrounding mountains offer the scenic views and hiking opportunities. The viewpoint of Rossbrand fills the air with the picturesque idyll. It’s one of the best viewpoint in the area.
Dachstein Mountain is a fascinating glacier and one of the highlights of the area, but closer to Hallstadt. The Dachstein Skywalk offers the breathtaking views from the stunning bridge. The richness of attractions include: Stairway to Nothing, suspension bridge, Sky Walk and Ice Palace (yes, you will see amazing ice sculptures).
Schladming is a popular skiing town, even larger than Radstadt. You can do hiking, wild swimming, rafting and many other activities. Hiking gives the best views at Schladminger-Tauern Höhenweg trail, where you can enjoy lovely waterfalls and rich plant life.
Schladming is famous for its events as many ski happenings take place here. This includes legendary Night Race and Ski Tournaments with top stars.
The Castle Hohenwerfen close to Radstadt
Hohenwerfen Castle lies above the Salzach River Valley north of Radstadt. This fairy tale place overlooks the town of Werfen, built in 11th century. In Werfen you can also visit the fascinating ice caves.
Final thoughts
Obertauern is a remote village with a plenty of skiing offer. The memory of Beatles was a pleasant surprise and scenery is just stunning. Radstadt is surrounded by many fabulous viewpoints and interesting sights.

One of the best things living in a four seasons country is that you can go ski. I never tried skiing. Malaysia is a tropical country. We only have summer here.

Such beautiful pictures! I have been to Vienna but not Radstadt. If I was a skier, I’d be on those slopes in a heartbeat!
