Monet’s garden is nestled at the lovely village of Giverny, which is only 1h from Paris by train. The closest town Vernon also deserves your attention.
The home of Claude Monet is an idylic place, where rustic atmosphere blends with the colours of nature. The famous impressionist is the one who invented Impressionism. The inspiration to this legendary movement came from his painting Impression, Sunrise dating from 1874.
What to expect at Monet’s Garden
The garden occupies two parts and one belongs to the courtyard of the house. The other one is the water garden, that shines in the Japanese style.
The flower gardens or so called The Clos Normand will delight you with thousands of flowers like tulips, irises, poppies and peonies. One simple ancient home characterises the interior of the Monet’s House with many details and colours. The dinning room is painted in yellow. Japanese prints inside of the house were the inspiration for the water garden.
The giftshop was once Monet’s studio where you can find many inspirational souvenirs. It’s a fantastic treasure to find some of Monet’s paintings and of his friends like Cezanne, Sisley, Renoir. The tunnel of roses and the straight lines of flowers divided by colours melted with some rarities spread like the fantasy of waterfalls.
The water garden
The famous bridges overlook the lakes with the lilies I was searching in vane in front of the house. I was so happy to find them finally at the other part of the street after the brooke. Not to confuse you, the underpass is a way to reach the water gardens.
After ten years of Monet’s life in Giverny, the water gardens united with the original part of the house. Monet created this pond and bought the land from the neghbourhs starting a new story.
In the middle of April I haven’t seen the famous lilies but my friend two weeks later did. Many other enchanting flowers enrich the area like the rhododendrons, azaleas, irises, wipping willows.
The house remained well kept thanks to his son and the step-daughter. Even the famous Japanese bridge from the beech wood with the embrace of wisterias needed a reparation.

About the village of Giverny
Not only Monet’s garden is an enchanting place to visit, but also the village in its pure tranquility.
The Museum of Impressionism with its gardens is a wonderful site to explore.
River Seine blends in the picturesque images with the river Epte in Giverny.
Several restaurants and cafes scatter around the village like the lovely pearls, while cute little galleries join them. The hiking paths nestle in Giverny and you can explore them on your own. The most popular one leads to Vernon by the old railroad path taking 5 km. Many wildflowers shine in this treasure of tranquility.
Vernon, the closest town to Monet’s Garden
Vernon is the starting point to Giverny so don’t miss a chance to stroll around this pleasant town. The main attraction is the old watermill so lovely hanging on the river Seine. The castle Chateau de Tourelles frames this picturesque image. Just across stands the river Seine, a crossing point for the river cruises.
Vernon has its own Notre-Dame, majestically lying along the picturesque houses in the half-timber style. The cozy walk around Vernon will take you to the round tower, which originated from the Chateau-fort.
Admiring the art works by Monet is also possible at the Musee Alphonse-Georges Poulain.
Final thoughts
Monet’s garden has been a dream for a long time. Visiting this place will take you to be on the painting, to go back in the time.
With the lilies pouring from the lake, Monet’s Garden is a world of fantasy.

This is so beautiful! I love gardens, but I’ve never had the luck for it unfortunately! So, I give anybody that can take care of multiple flowers and herbs lots of kudoes. I think my favorite photo from your collection is the one with the vined arches. Those were so cool! 🙂
