Zagreb is a charming city and if you travel to Croatia don’t think only about seaside as Zagreb will offer you lovely parks, amazing architecture and cute, creative corners. Some of them are wonderful caffe bars you should not miss. Zagreb is the champion in decorating its streets specially during Advent, street festival C’est is d’best, Florart at Bundek lake which all happens to be just so, so cute. In these times Zagreb lives some special unity.
Magnolia slastice- fairy tale vibes at the pastry shop in Zagreb
Honestly, this pastry shop is the most beautiful caffe bar I saw in Zagreb. It truly is decorated like a fairy tale, especially its original location in Trešnjevka. Out of 3 locations in Zagreb, this place offers hand made cakes and the favourite chill vibe in the town including delicious coffee. I cannot believe that in 7 years of its existance I hear for Magnolia slastice only now. It happened thanks to instagram, though pastry shop in Gundulićeva properly in the centre is of the newer date.
I must say that I was truly disappointed that in Gundulićeva flowers were nonexistent due to the construction works at the entrance. Only 2 months back this lovely place was covered in flowers. Firstly I didn’t think to go to Trešnjevka as I was stuck in time. Visiting another lovely caffe bar, I decided to go as it was not so far. Oh I’m so glad I did as I returned from Zagreb truly enchanted. Inside and outside Trešnjevka offers unique experience to all senses. It’s located 20 minutes by walk from the Main Square.
History & Offer of Magnolia slastice
Mother and daughter are the magicians of their dreamy art, Rosanda Jelinić i Jasmina Bagarić. After retirement this dream came true in 2013. as the starting point.
Pastry chef from France Emilien Geslin joined their team adding the years of wordly experience made in London, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca plus France.
This place sometimes also becomes an exclusive evening venue due to concerts happening here specially in Gundulićeva.
Salty and sweet delicacies are offered, but also fabulous artwork for many celebrations. Vegetarian options available.
Tri locations exist in Zagreb: Trakošćanska 17A at Trešnjevka, Gundulićeva 4 near the former Musical college and one in Radnička inside the Superkonzum. There success joins another location at the West arrows of Zagreb.
Salon Kak se šika- vintage vibes of the Instagrammable caffe in Zagreb
This vintage place at Ilica 93 is a gallery of academic painter Mihaela Olujić. Small but cozy Salon Kak se šika also affers cakes & musical events. Plus images you can buy. Not only you can buy images but also various decorations.
Some of the events include: exhibition „Love letters to the world“ by Antonella Šantek. The owner is inspired by the artistic influence of nearby Academy of Fine Arts.
Salon Finjak
Salon Finjak in Vlaška 78 is a peaceful place with the charming courtyard where handmade feel is primary infusion. I loved to see so many glasses, artistic chandeliers and cozy, friendly atmosphere. Amazing list of french infusions is a special treasure here.
Botaničar- amazing caffe bar full of greenery
Cozy place near the Botanical gardens is immersed into the green, plant world. It’s the place where you can listen various lectures or listen to the concerts/having literature evening and just enjoy the peace of subtility.
Long time the opening of this place took the struggle of legal formations as it was located in the residential building. In the hands of two colleges from Zadar with the decorative stick of Son Chi and Petra Tikulin this truly became the oasis of creativity and fresh energy.

A most unusual garden
This hippy and relaxing place in Horvaćanska 3 is a popular night spot with the gin-tonic as the prefered drink here. Fabulous tree house with the terrance just looks so inviting. Sympa cakes are included in the offer.
Velvet
Cozy, vintage feeling in Dežmanova 9 is fulfilled with the cute garden, lovely exposition and perfect place to read in its armchairs. I didn’t visit Velvet, but it just looks so cute.
Friends caffe bar Tresor
Beautiful cozy ambient Friends from the popular tv-show sparkles along the hidden backyard here in Novi Zagreb, Hrastinski Prilaz 3. It’s the place to relax with the friends, once it also has the popular couch and Friends logo at the entrance.
Movie pub
Located just along the Movie hotel in Savska 141 this place will give you bombastic feeling decorated with the hundreds of pictures, portraits, film equipment. Restaurant is included onsite but it’s primarly evening venue to go out.
Figa Garden Caffe Bar by Hendrick
Settled at the hidden corner of one backyard in Gundulićeva 39 this place burst with the relaxing atmosphere and colourful chairs. The fig tree will give you the shelter in the late summer.
Johann Franck
This legendary place room represents 3 in 1: caffe bar, night club and restaurant. Located properly at the main square this elegant place breaths the vintage feeling. After the renovation this ambient got more space and vintage style including the ancient Franck coffee.
Final thoughts
This collection is not exhaustive as some od my favourite places don’t exist anymore. Jutro could be proud of its handmade articles offered to sell and decor, healthy cakes and lovely courtyard.
Muzungu was an african bar unifying little fairs (where I even exposed) and lovely cultural events decorated in its unique african style.
Zagreb is calling you, come to Zagreb.

Magnolia Slastice, where do I even begin? This delightful treat has captured my taste buds and left me craving for more. The combination of the rich, creamy magnolia flavor and the satisfying sweetness of the slastice is simply divine.
