Zadar & Nin make the perfect itinerary for sunset lovers and mountain views

If you’re coming to Croatia, Zadar is the perfect choice. Not only Zadar, make yourself immersed to the surrounding villages, small towns and islands. Zadar is the heaven for sunset lovers in the close proximity of Velebit mountain and even the famous Plitvice waterfalls.

If you decide to spend only one day in Zadar, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Zadar

Zadar is famous for the awesome installation called Sea organs where music of waves floats at the wide distance, many people just come and sit at the stairs or the bench enjoying not only the music. The sound comes from the stone steps. Sunset in Zadar is a picture postcard that doesn’t need words. It’s said to be the most beautiful sunset in Croatia. The view of neighbouring islands is a picture for itself. Not only sunset, Salutation to the Sun is the way Zadar colours itself. It’s the adjacent installation where colours burst at night.

Lovely promenade leads all the way to the College of philosophy which makes also Zadar famous but locally.

While strolling through the old town here are some of the major sights to see:

Wonder around St. Donat Church that is surrounded by archeological traces of Roman forum and Archeological museum itself. Special acoustics make this church a fantastic place to discover and enjoy some classical concert. Once I was listening a digeridoo of my friends inside.

Just on the corner Bell tower dominates the town’s beauty which is actually the face of St. Anastasia’s Cathedral. The origin basilica dates back already in the year 300.

Museum of ancient glass is revived in the colourful building which made the part of croatian life from 1800s.

The wide street carries Zadar’s main life without the magic of labyrinth streets or tiny little corners. It’s the popular Kalelarga turned also into the song. Zadar is shaped circullary with the few walls of the exquisite decorative expression.

Five wells dwell upon the square of the same name, it’s encircled with the charming park carrying the hilly views. Once the wells served as the water supply for the Venetians to be prepared to keep away the Ottomans.

The main cultural events are happening at Arsenal.

THE VIEW OF ISLAND IŽ AND DUGI OTOK (LONG ISLAND)

Island Ugljan is the picturesque place ornated with the stunning views of the nearby islands from above but also small islands to which you can swim from Preko and only 25 minutes by boat from Zadar. Don’t miss the chance. If you have even more time, island Silba proudly stands as the walking treasure artistically enriched.

Other day tours include Telaščica National Park as well as Kornati.

Only one hour away from Zadar you can admire the stunning canyons of Zrmanja river.

Nin

Sweet little town, from the moment you step on the cobblestone bridge that enters the old town you will gaze in awe. Nin is the lesson in history as the Archeological Museum spells the charm with its traces. Imposant figure of croatian language Grgur Ninski finds its place here.

Salt production makes Nin so remarkable, explore it in the nearby museum.

Sabunike

If you’re in Nin, don’t miss Sabunike where the splendid views of Velebit mountain burst. Recently it’s built a viewpoint with the binocular eyes. It’s where my aunt lives. I would call it a village but it’s more proper to say a touristic resort as all the shops get closed already in September. Green alley with shadowed trees and lovely benches makes Sabunike so charmant. Beach that is located here is called Queen’s beach, why this name? Who knows, maybe because of the mountains views. It’s interesting that the sea becomes shallow no matter how deep you go in the sea. Well, at the certain point it indeed becomes deep. That makes it fantastic place for the kids plus the sand beach. At the next bay only 20 minutes by walking you’ll find the currative mud.

Unlike Sabunike without the sunset flowing at the sea, nearby Privlaka will give you the chance to chase the sunsets. Camping places you can find here are blended with the private houses of their owners.

Island Vir

If you want to explore the area even further, visit the island Vir which is linked with the bridge and only 5 minutes away from Nin. Stunning Kaštelina or the ancient castel reminds of Garda Lake and Sirmione, only 7 km from the center. It dates all the way from 16. century.

All in all

Located at the central seaside point of Croatia Zadar is the heaven to visiting nearby places. This charming town offers more than the incredible sunset, I’m surprised how I know so little about the archeological treasure after visiting Zadar numerous times. Sit and enjoy its music of the waves.

Zadar is known for its music of the waves and Nin for the salt production, it can be a perfect base to discover amazing places in Croatia. Discover what to see in Zadar and surroundings and why is the sunset in Zadar known as the most beautiful in Croatia. #zadarcroatia#discovercroatia#sunsetlovers
