Located in the Austrian Alps, the nearest airport or train station is in Innsbruck. About 100 km away, you will need almost 2h to reach Ischgl. Being the crossing point of the area, Landeck Zams is the closest larger town.
Taking the train to Landeck-Zams and a bus afterwards (one ticket) is the most convenient way to reach Ischgl.
Zurich is about 200 km from Innsbruck, so you can consider as an option.

Every winter, Ischgl transforms into an open-air gallery during its Snow Sculture Festival at Silvretta Arena. Starting at the beginning of January, Formen in Weiss usually lasts for a week and the sculptures stay till mid February. Unfortunately, during my visit in February the scultures were gone because of weather conditions including the Sun and wind.
With the new theme every year, be sure not to miss this unparallelled experience. Here artists from around the world create breathtaking works of art from snow and ice. Itโs a magical experience that culturally enriches your journey and a must-see for anyone who loves photography.

Scenic Hiking Trails
Ischgl isnโt only for skiers- itโs also a paradise for hikers. The region offers beautifully marked winter hiking trails which blend snow-covered forests and peaceful alpine valleys. Whether you prefer a short panoramic walk or a longer day hike, the paths offer stunning views at every turn.

Family-friendly trails in Ischgl
Choosing the easy path around Mathon youโll cover around 5 km one way, starting at the Silvrettabhn car park.
Greitspitz trail starts at the cable car Filmjochbahn, covering about 40 minutes beautiful panoramic views.
Ischglblick Circular Trail is an easy walk from the Silvrettabahn within 5 km, leading to the Rossboden.
From the easier winter routes you can enjoy in Mutta, Versing or Oberhaus trail.
The Lyric Walk
Just a short walk from the Ischgl town center, youโll find the Lyric Walk filled with art installations. Itโs a charming trails, running along the edge of a steep alpine valley close to the river and hanging bridge.
One of the highlights is the Message in a Bottle, a giant wooden sculpture that unfolds fantastic photos. Leading to the Sting sculpture, it reminds me of the charming Obertauern honouring Beatles. The walk is mostly downhill and offers plenty of pretty viewpoints and tranquil corners. Covering 7,5 km, the trail is pretty cozy taking about 20 minutes from Ischgl center and 3h all around.
Honoring Policeโs song Message in the Bottle, the Lyric Walk is filled with many funny sculptures.

Proximity to Switzerland
One of the most fascinating things about Ischgl is the close proximity to Switzerland. Its ski slopes are connected with the Swiss town of Samnaun, an amazing place for shopping.
