CROATIA
Zlatni Rat, island Brač, Croatia- contributed by myself
Zlatni Rat is the most famous beach in Croatia, nestled on the lovely island of Brač. You can see it in every brochure that invites you to visit Croatia so don’t skip it. Visiting Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) will enrich your experience of Croatia as you admire its marvelous colours.
This pebble beach changes its shape due to circumstances, though often looks like a sandy one. It will satisfy all tastes by offering lots of places to grab at the Sun and shadow. From the children’s area to paragliding and paddling, Zlatni Rat is full of activities. You can enjoy a snack or lunch with a fabulous view at several eateries around. Biomania offers vegan delicacies so it’s truly a paradise for everyone.

How to reach & where to stay
The pretty town of Bol is located at the southern corners of island Brač and bursts with breathtaking beaches. Zlatni Rat requires nearly 20 minutes by foot from the center, partly through the shady forest. You can reach Bol by catamaran from Split in 45 minutes or via Supetar. From Supetar, it takes 1h ride at the mountainous road. It’s the main ferry port at the island, only 1h away from Split.
Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa offers a cozy stay just near the beach, including the rich half-board and spa facilities.
Lopar Beach (Paradise Beach), island Rab- contributed by Martina from PlacesofJuma
One of the most stunning beaches in Europe is undoubtedly Lopar Beach, located on the picturesque island of Rab in Croatia. This mesmerizing bay is widely acclaimed as one of the top bathing destinations on the island.
A vacation at Lopar Beach offers a pristine sandy shoreline that gently slopes into the azure waterss. Allowing visitors to wade through the crystal-clear sea for extensive distances is an alluring experience. This feature sets it apart from many other beaches in Croatia, which often consist of pebbles or rocks. The sheltered bay is particularly favored by older individuals, non-swimmers, and families with young children. They appreciate the calm and safe bathing conditions it offers.
During the summer months, the beach is vibrant and lively. The off-peak seasons of spring to June and from September onwards offers the transformation into a serene haven of tranquility. This is the perfect time to indulge in the sheer beauty of the beach and immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere.

How to reach & where to stay
The easiest way to reach the island is by taking a ferry from either the neighboring island of Krk or from the mainland at Stinica. The last one connects to Misnjak. Once you arrive, a short drive or taxi ride will take you to the charming town of Lopar. Finally, the enchantment of the Paradise Beach awaits.
For those seeking the ideal accommodation for a family getaway, the San Marino Camping Resort by Valamar is a splendid choice. Situated right by the beach, it offers prime location and features excellent mobile homes. In this way it ensures a memorable and comfortable stay.
Pasjača Beach near Dubrovnik, contributed by Olivia from Inspired by Croatia
Pasjaca Beach, located just 13 kilometers south of the charming town of Cavtat in Croatia, is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking beaches in Europe. Its remarkable beauty and unique features set it apart from other coastal destinations, making it a must-visit for beach lovers and nature enthusiasts.
What makes Pasjaca Beach truly special is its secluded and hidden location, nestled under towering red cliffs. The pristine beach offers a mix of small pebbles and sand, while the crystal clear turquoise waters create a mesmerizing contrast against the rugged landscape.
Located in close proximity to Pasjaca Beach is the enchanting town of Cavtat. Known for its tree-lined waterfront and picturesque beaches, Cavtat offers a delightful combination of natural beauty and ancient architecture.
How to reach & where to stay
The only way to reach Pasjaca is with a car. When you arrive at the parking area, you’ll need to follow a narrow and winding path that leads down to the beach. The descent offers gorgeous, panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea along the way. There are no amenities on the beach itself, just raw beauty. For this reason, it’s important to come prepared with plenty of water and snacks.
Visitors can explore the town’s charming streets, lined with traditional stone houses, and discover historical treasures such as a painter’s house and a majestic mausoleum. Plus, Cavtat makes a great alternative to staying in its bigger sister, Dubrovnik. Hotel Croatia on the beach is a fantastic choice!

Isola Bella (Taormina), Sicily- contributed by Veronika Primm from Travel Geekery
One of the most picturesque beaches in Sicily can be found at the base of the delightful town of Taormina. This pebble beach offers a stunning view of Mount Etna along with a charming little islet known as Isola Bella. You can easily reach the islet by walking from the beach. Depending on the tide, you may get your ankles or even your thighs wet.
There is a small entrance fee to access the islet, but it is definitely worth it. Despite its small size, Isola Bella boasts lush greenery. It also holds the remains of an old mansion that belonged to a wealthy family who once resided there.
Taormina is renowned as one of the top destinations in Sicily, offering a wide array of different things to do. From exploring ancient landmarks such as the Ancient Greek Theater and mountaintop fortresses, there is no shortage of activities to engage in while in Taormina. It’s also fascinating to indulge in delectable cuisine and enjoy bars that serve traditional Sicilian granita.

How to reach & where to stay
Reaching Isola Bella Beach is a breeze as you can simply take a cable car from Taormina town.
Although most visitors to Taormina limit their visit to a day trip, it is highly recommended to extend your stay. Immersing yourself in the town’s enchanting ambiance after sunset is so peaceful once the day trippers have departed. Consider reserving a room at the highly-rated B&B a’ Coffa, ideally located on the central Corso Umberto Boulevard. It provides an easy access to the town’s attractions.
Cala Coticcio, Sardinia- contributed by Claudia Tavani from Strictly Sardinia
Known as Little Tahiti, Cala Coticcio fears no rivals. This tine cove is located in the island of Caprera, part of La Maddalena Archipelago, northeast of Sardinia.
The beach is characterized by unique granite rock formations, fine golden sand and the most clear, turquoise waters you can ever imagine. There are several viewpoints you can climb to for the perfect photo. Don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear as there’s lots of marine life here. However, don’t pick anything from the water (shells, sand, pebbles, marine stars and even jellyfish) as it is prohibited,
As the beach is highly protected, you won’t be allowed to lay a regular towel. Because of the fear that precious sand may stick to it bring a straw mat. For the same reason, you also can’t place umbrellas.
There’s nothing in the way of services here, so you will need to carry whatever you need for the visit. This includes food, drinks, and by all means a small bag where you can place your trash.
The turquoise waters of Cala Coticcio, Sardinia
How to reach & where to stay?
Cala Coticcio is a highly protected beach that can only be reached via a hike departing from a parking lot in Caprera Island. You will need a guide for the hike. Local guides can be found on the website of La Maddalena National Park. Guided tours depart twice daily – one group in the morning, and one in the early afternoon. The hike is for the most part moderate, but you will need hiking shoes or boots for that.
The best place to stay is Hotel Villa del Parco, in the charming La Maddalena town, in the nearby Maddalena island, which is connected to Caprera via a bridge.
San Fruttuoso, Portofino- contributed by James Ian from Travel Collecting
San Fruttuoso is a tiny, but incredibly beautiful, beach on the Italian Riviera. Hidden in a tiny cover, there are only two ways to reach the beach – by boat or on foot.
When you arrive, you immediately notice the gorgeous tenth century abbey that dominates the cove. The golden arches and tower of the former abbey create the perfect backdrop for the beach.
The beach itself has deck chairs and umbrellas available. The water is an emerald green color and perfect for cooling off on a warm summer day. There are several seafood restaurants and a more casual café that crowd into the area surrounding the tiny bay.
The best place to stay is nearby Portofino. Playground of the rich and famous, this is wonderful place to shop, eat, and people watch. The focal point is the delightful Piazzetta Martiri Dell Olivetta. For sightseeing, head up into the surrounding hills to see the dramatic Castello Brown.
San Fruttuoso Beach & its umbrellas at Italian riviera
How to reach & where to stay
You can hike through Portofino Regional Park to San Fruttuoso from Portofino (2 hours; recommended) or Camogli (harder and longer). Boats also go from both places, as well as Santa Margherita and Rapallo. I recommend walking there and then taking the boat back at the end of your day at the beach.
In addition to boat, you can also reach Portofino by bus, car or taxi. The nearest train station is Santa Margherita Ligure, just 3 miles away.
There are several great hotels in Portofino. A top pick is Splendido Mare, a beautiful luxury hotel set among the colorful buildings next to the Portofino harbor.
Spiaggia Grande, Positano- contributed by Sam Opp from Find Love And Travel
You won’t find it challenging to discover beautiful beaches in Europe, especially in Italy. However, there is something particularly special about Spiaggia Grande in Positano, Italy.
Positano is known for its beautiful beaches that draw tourists here time and time again. There are also picturesque allies, unbelievable architecture, and incredible food to explore.
The beach itself is surrounded by colorful houses nestled within the mountains and is easily one of the most famous beaches in Italy. Along the beach, you will find the quintessential striped umbrellas and chairs for rent and restaurants on the beach.
Because it is a popular beach in Positano, get there early to secure your spot. Additionally, the sand is much more coarse here, so have sandals that can get wet.
While in Positano, you can wander down the charming allies, hike the Path of the Gods, enjoy a great meal with jaw-dropping views, and check out some of the other surrounding beaches.

How to reach & where to stay
You can get to Positano by Ferry, public bus, or Sightseeing buses. Ferry and sightseeing buses are usually the best option. It is a great day trip from Sorrento, and other nearby Amalfi Coast towns.

Embarking on a scenic hike through the dense forest for approximately 20 to 30 minutes is a delightful experience in itself. Cala Violina is a heaven of tranquility that will make you discover Tuscany off the beaten path.
The nearest town to the beach is Castiglione della Pescaia, a typical summer vacation destination. There is a main street with stores and small restaurants but also a fairly old historic center to explore on foot.
For a truly relaxing stay, prefer a room in a farmhouse such as Agriturismo Val di Nappo. From there, you can reach the beach with a 10-minute drive.
MALTA
Blue Lagoon, contributed by Rai from A Rai Of Light
Found on Comino Island, the Blue Lagoon is a must visit when in Malta. It attracts visitors due to its crystal clear turquoise blue waters, fine white sand, and pretty natural scenery. The beach is also enclosed by jagged cliffs and rocky outcrops. Shaping a natural wide pool in between Comino Island and the island of Cominotto they enrich to its natural beauty and appeal.
The calm waters of the natural pool makes it a great choice for a family vacation. The best part is that the water temperature here is warm enough to swim throughout the year. The worst part is that since this is one of the best attractions, it attracts hundreds of tourists and gets incredibly busy. So it is advisable to visit early in the morning or just before sunset.
The beach offers a number of water sports activities for those who prefer adventure over relaxation. These include kayaking, jet-skiing, and paddle-boarding. You can also choose to snorkel or scuba dive to explore the marine life of the region.

ALBANIA
Ksamil Beach, contributed by myself
The turquoise colours that look so dreamy exist at absolutely underrated European beaches. Albania is a hidden gem where stunning beaches take the rule. Ksamil town with the beach of the same name lies near beautiful Saranda. Saranda is a lovely town and the main port of Albania, closest to the Greek island Corfu.
The divine beaches of Ksamil are simply marvelous. It’s a quiet place with crystal-clear water and several small islands around. Most of the beaches are sandy, which is pretty uncommon in Albania.
During the summer it gets very crowded so it’s better to visit Ksamil in the off-season. The town itself is full of hotels, restaurants and bars just near the beach. Most beaches in Ksamil include sunbeds and umbrellas. It’s such a treasure as tree shadow is so rare here. Enjoying water sports offers a picturesque background for boats, canoes and similar.
At the outskirts of Ksamil, you’ll find lovely coves with more tranquility during the highest season.

Playa de la Teresitas, Tenerife- contributed by Alexandra from Tenerife Is
Playa de las Teresitas is the landmark of Tenerife. This beach welcomes you with a light sea breeze and crystal clear water. Most of the beaches in Tenerife are of volcanic origin and with black sand, but Las Teresitas beach features golden sand.
The sand here was specially imported from the distant Sahara desert. To ensure a peaceful experience for holidaymakers, a breakwater barrier was constructed to prevent waves from disrupting the serene atmosphere. Despite the fact that the beach has been artificially created, it gives the impression of an untouched piece of land. There are no ubiquitous hotels here – instead, the scenery is adorned by the peaks of the mountains. There are palm trees planted along the whole one and a half kilometer beach strip. It really is a paradise beach and an ideal place for a relaxing vacation. Just please keep in mind that because the beach is beautiful, it is very popular. The beach is always busy, especially on weekends.
But there is always something to do – volleyball games or yoga or aerobics classes are regularly held on the beach.

Praia de Dona Ana, Lagos- contributed by Natali from She’s Abroad Again
Situated on the sunny Algarve coast in Portugal, lies the small seaside town of Lagos. The closest airport is in Faro, about an hour drive from Lagos or simply take a train or bus from Lisbon.
The town is rather charming, with cobblestone streets and unique, tiled houses. However, the main reason to come to Lagos is the beaches.
Beaches in Lagos are picturesque sandy coves surrounded by dramatic golden cliffs and unique rock formations. Cliffs are separating the beaches along the coastline, starting from Praia da Batata in the city center to Praia da Balança on the edge of Ponta de Piedade.
The amazing cliffs and caves of Praia de Donna Anna in Lagos, Portugal
How to reach & where to stay?
As the beaches are at the bottom of the cliffs, most are reached by challenging and steep footpaths. To avoid hiking and to see several beaches in a day, join one of Lagos kayak tours. Seeing them from the sea is just fabulous.
Don’t worry if you just want to relax on the beach without hiking to get to it. Lagos has several beaches that are easy to reach and stunning, for example, Praia de Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo. They are some of the widest beaches along the coastline sheltered from the wind with crystal clear water.
Marinha Beach, Algarve- contributed by Linn Haglund from Amused by Algarve

Featuring Marinha beach in major travel magazines like Conde Nast and Lonely Planet is so inviting. And rightly so. Situated below a steep cliff in breathtaking surroundings, large rocks emerge from the crystal clear water. Creating a scenery like no other is definitely breathtaking.

How to reach & where to stay?
Reaching the beach is easiest by car. There is a large car parking on top of the cliff. There are also some kiosks selling snacks in the summer months. You must walk down a flight of steps to reach the beach and once there, you find a restaurant with toilets and lifeguards in summer.
Little tunnel in the rock leads into a tiny, secluded beach that only fits a handful of people.
The best place to stay nearby is Albufeira. It is a quaint beach town where you find everything you need, including rental cars to go to the beach. The best place to stay in Albufeira is in the old town. A great option is Bertolina Guest House where you can enjoy splendid views of the old town.
UK & IRELAND
Bamburgh, England- contributed by Sarah Carter of Northumberland’s Best
You’ll find Bamburgh Beach in England’s most northerly county, Northumberland, and in a county of stunning beaches, this is the best. The village of Bamburgh is on Britain’s North East Coast, and Bamburgh beach is found right next to the village, in the shadow of the glorious Bamburgh Castle. There are no facilities here, aside from in the village, and this wild beach, which stretches for miles and miles of untouched golden sand and dunes is just marvelous.
The walk down the coast to Seahouses – about 4 miles – is one of the top things to do in Northumberland. On a clear day, you’ll have views of Holy Island and the Farne Island, and even on the busiest of days you’ll have miles of beach to yourself – it’s a perfect beach for a bucket and spade for sand castle building, a picnic, and a good book.

How to reach & where to stay?
While in Bamburgh, visit the Castle and the RNLI Grace Darling Museum and stay at the Victoria Hotel right in the center of Bamburgh. Getting to Bamburgh is easy by car – take the A1 to the B1341 or B1342 junctions and follow the signs. By bus, you’ll need to get to Newcastle and then take the hourly bus north.
Coumeenoole Beach, contributed by Amber from Amber Everywhere
Coumeenoole Beach is a sandy strand on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. Its jagged rock outcroppings and pristine views of the Atlantic make it one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.
For the best views of the rock formations, try to visit Coumeenoole Beach at low tide. If you’re lucky, you might even find live starfish in the pools that form around the rock formations.
Coumeenoole Beach near Dingle town, Ireland
How to reach & where to stay?
You can reach Coumeenoole Beach by car. There’s a car park just above the beach with plenty of spots. Follow the partially paved path from the car park down to the beach.
The nearest town is Dingle, a small seaside village. When in Dingle, be sure to visit the Fish Box for the one of the best fish and chips in Ireland. During the summer, you can take a boat tour out to see the Great Blasket Islands. There is also a discount store that sells Irish wool sweaters located close to the pier.
Stay nearby in Dingle Town at Dunlavin House, a beautiful B&B that overlooks Dingle Bay. Every morning, the B&B serves an amazing breakfast. Dunlavin House would be the perfect place to try a traditional Irish breakfast, if you haven’t already.
Alternatively, you could visit Coumeenoole Beach as part of a long day trip or road trip from the nearby cities of Limerick or Cork. In this case, you’ll want to also plan for stops at Dunquin Pier, Inch Beach, and Dingle Town.
ICELAND
Diamond Beach, contributed by Victoria from Iceland Trippers
Easily one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, Diamond Beach is a truly awesome, unique black sand beach.
After all, this place is located just 45 minutes from Stokksness and sits right across the street from Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.
Therefore, as the tide rises and falls, ocean currents carry large chunks of glacial ice from the lagoon to the beach. In this way it allows visitors to walk among glacial ice during their time here.
Just be aware that the amount of glacial ice on the beach depends on the conditions and melting of ice in the nearby lagoon.

How to reach & where to stay?
So, to visit one of the best beaches in Iceland, simply drive along the Ring Road until you reach Jokulsarlon.
Once here, park at the visitor center and explore the lagoon before bringing your car across the street and parking at the lot associated with Diamond Beach.
Just be aware that you will have to go over a bridge as you drive to Diamond Beach. And while you can explore the beach to either side of the bridge, the right side tends to be more popular.
Finally, when you’re ready, spend the night in one of nine well-outfitted rooms inside Skyrhúsid Guest House.
After all, this hotel was a former yogurt factory that has since been converted into a guest house with sweeping mountain views.
POLAND
Brzenzo Beach, near Gdansk- contributed by Josh Band from A Backpacker’s World
One of the most beautiful beaches in Europe is Brzenzo Beach in Gdansk, in northern Poland. People don’t often associate Poland with beautiful beaches, but it has its fair share.
Brzenzo Beach is found on the Baltic Sea, and you can see Kalingrad and even Lithuania on a clear, sunny day. The beach has lovely golden sand and gorgeous blue water. The area is also incredibly scenic, surrounded by greenery.
Being in Eastern Europe, Poland has quite a lot of history, and you can learn a lot about World War 2 at the nearby Westerplatte, where the war’s first shots were fired. It’s also only 15 minutes drive from Gdansk, a city jam-packed with history. There’s the WW2 Museum and lots of other historically important sites such as the Polish Post Office.
At the right time of year, temperatures at Brzenzo Beach can be in the mid-20s (celsius), making it a really nice beach for relaxing and soaking in the sun. It’s also very chilled and relaxed, with no activities on the beach and few children causing chaos. If you want a beach to unwind, Brzenzo is the beach for you.

How to reach & where to stay?
What’s so great about this part of Poland too is how cheap it is. You can get an Uber from Gdansk to Brzenzo Beach for the equivalent of €3 or so. The area is super easy to get around. The best place to stay in Gdansk is Apart Neptune, which offers incredibly high-quality stays for an incredibly affordable price.

Wow, this is a stunning collection of beaches! I believe I have seen the Sicily one from the bus when I was going to Etna, and it was breathtaking. I started dreaming about going there on a separate trip. The Algarve one is a dream of mine, I want to go since I saw it first time in a song. Hopefully, I’ll manage to see those in the next two years or so. Thanks for sharing!
