24.11.2025.

Bled is one of those places that instantly feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Every corner invites you to slow down, breathe, explore and take thousands of photos. Picturesque scenes are so magical during the dusk when you stand in awe and admire the colours.

As the serene waters follow the images of the majestic castle perched atop a cliff, this feels unreal.

Not so famous as Budapest or other European spa towns, you can enjoy the recharging spa waters in Bled. I had no idea about this until coming- and you? Only 1h away from the charming Ljubljana, it feels even close enough to visit Abano & Montegrotto Terme near Padova.

Though you can take a day trip to Bled, itโ€™s more fascinating to spend a few days here and discover the serene hikes.

Come with me to discover more than Lake Bled.

This post contains links which could help me to earn a small commission at no extra cost for you. Thank you for reading and supporting Under Flowery Sky.

1. Lakeside strolls around Bled

Walking around Lake Bled is the most iconic way to gently explore what it offers. The full loop is about 6 km long and mostly flat while you enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

What will inspire you to take a boat ride is the island church. Ringing a bell here is calling out your wish to come true, despite the expensive boat price (20โ‚ฌ).

Starting with a coffee or even better- a traditional cake known as bledska kremลกnita will let you absorb the scenery. Donโ€™t miss this symbol of Lake Bled and I had a vegan version from the restaurant in Lesce.

Most of the restaurants and caffe bars are located at the center of Bled.

Adventures on the way

Thinking that I will finish the stroll earlier, it took me the whole day choosing the viewpoint hikes. Passing the middle of the lake, I went up towards the Ojstrica.

After getting down- not right away, what a gift I got for my birthday! I saw that the footpath was closed but it wasnโ€™t the alternative way. Except the signs, it wasnโ€™t written- go here or take the shuttle. There wasnโ€™t any warning so police caught me in this surprising way! Not a sense and I was very angry!

2. Iconic viewpoints- Ojstrica & Osojnica

Ojstrica is, without a doubt, the best viewpoint and you can easily reach it within 20 minutes of climbing. Just take the turn where the signs show after passing the rowing center. Here you can take a picture postcard of Bled without the fence- unlike the other viewpoints.

The ascent is a bit steep but short, rewarding you with the iconic view.

In the peace that offers, take a moment to pause at Ojstrica and reflect on all the beauty of Bled.

Another two viewpoints are Mala and Velika Osojnica, both standing on different sides.

Mala & Velika Osojnica

Mala Osojnica unveils a fantastic spectrum of colours, where the blue waters sparkle in all its nuances. Itโ€™s about 20 minutes away from both Ojstrica and Velika Osojnica. Take a rest on the bench and soak up the vibes.

If you want to explore the forest paths, take the 20-minute trail to Velika Zaka.

Velika Osojnica stands on the way to Bohinjska Bela as youโ€™ll be a bit surprised as thereโ€™s only a heart bench.

3. Exploring nearby villages- Bohinjska Bela

If you have extra time, a short walk or bike ride takes you to Bohinjska Bela. Only 35 minutes from the crossroad to Velika Osojnica covers a new set of discoveries. Itโ€™s an ideal spot for those who enjoy discovering hidden corners beyond the main tourist paths. This charming village unfolds quiet streets, scenic viewpoints, and a real sense of local life.

In Bohinjska Bela, you can continue the hiking trails towards Galetovac (about 2h) or the Cave Under Bablji Zub (2h). Except another perspective of Lake Bled at these trails, discover the Iglica Waterfall or Jelovica Plateau.

4. Enchanting Forest- The Hill Gozd

One of my favourite discoveries was the magical forest trail above the village of Zasip. Walking under the canopy of trees, youโ€™ll enjoy the pristine nature and peaceful oasis. With dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves, it will feel almost otherworldly.

The trail is easy to moderate, perfect for reflective stroll and a great way to escape the crowds. Just bring water and comfortable shoes and youโ€™re set for an hour or two of peaceful wandering.

Officially, you should buy a ticket from Mali Pustolovci, joining the group or on your own to properly finish the tasks. To welcome you on the trail, relax at the large playground or in the restaurant. Here at the Hom hill youโ€™ll learn about the wild plants, visit the magical creatures and get new creative skills.

5. Vintgar Gorge

Stretching close to the Enchanting Forest, Vintgar Gorge is a fantastic addition to marvel your day. At this popular excursion near Bled, youโ€™ll walk along wooden bridges over the Radovna River, passing waterfalls and rapids. Vintgar Gorge is a must-see, if you enjoy dramatic natural scenery without strenuous hiking. Only 1,5h covers the trail of this majestic wonder.

Unfortunately, itโ€™s open from April till the end of October and ticket costs 15โ‚ฌ.

6. Pokljuka Plateau

Pokljuka lies within 2h of walking from the Ojstrica viewpoint. Within dense forests and alpine meadows you can enjoy the fresh mountain air on this moderate hike.

7. Spodnje Gorje- Mala Planina

To this scenic villages leads a 45-minute hike from central Bled, where delightful images let you relax. Near Spodnje Gorje, you can visit another gorge, Soteska Vingar, and the lovely waterfall ล um.

8. Bonus- Bohinj Lake & Vogel Viewpoint

Only 45 minutes away from Bled, Bohinj Lake bursts into a stunning feeling of the alpine retreat. Bohinj feels raw and untouched- a place where nature takes the lead.

The moment you arrive, youโ€™ll notice the difference as the dramatic peaks of the Julian Alps spread in the distance. Starting your Triglav adventures here makes Bohinj even more special.

Walking around the lake takes 3-4 h, covering 11,5 km. Most people will walk from the central Bohinj towards the Vogel cable car, just like I did. Unfortunately, it was closed both times that I went. Next, I would love to take a hiking trip to the Vogel viewpoint, which is about 5h.

A fantastic view of the lake awaits at Vogel, where you can enjoy the delicious strudel and other meals.

From the Bohinj Ukanc, the Savica Waterfall challenges you for a another trail- about 7 km to reach it.

Tips For A Magical Visit & What To Avoid in Bled

Start your day early to enjoy the calm before the crowds arrive.

Wear comfortable shoes, even the easy trails can be uneven in places.

Donโ€™t rush, part of Bledโ€™s charm is taking time to breath and observe.

I would suggest rather going to Terme ลฝiva, than visiting the castle or taking a boat ride.

The traditional boat Pletna will let you experience the charming island church, which is a reason to take the boat. Costing 20โ‚ฌ per person is why I suggest skipping it, if youโ€™re short in time. To enter the church, you will have to pay 6โ‚ฌ.

About the Bled Castle

Visiting Bled Castle seems more scenic from down than above. Paying 18โ‚ฌ for a ticket seems to me to be for only having a coffee with a view. Thereโ€™s also a restaurant, which will provide you with more picturesque photo opportunities.

In the Castle Museum, you can enjoy the views and the traces of the historic heritage. Informing yourself in advance about the castle will give you the best decision about your visit, regarding the expensive price.

Relax in the little chapel and visit the wine cellar of the Castle.

Where to Eat in Bled

First of all, I had the best pizza in Bled. More than that, it was a stunning vegan pizza, though a bit pricey. Pizzeria Gallus, located just below the Rikli Balance Hotel, is a cozy place with a splendid view.

Public & Vegan Kitchen Bled was temporarily closed, but seems a fantastic place to visit. Instead, thereโ€™s a cute vegan restaurant in Lesce- Tavci Kuhna and Ayatana. Here you will find amazing curries, burgers and cakes- not only burgers and pasta.

Gostilna Murka serves traditional Slovenian dishes, located right near the church.

Of course, thereโ€™s a burger place near the bus station covering some budget options.

Art Caffe offers a variety of menus for all tastes and delicious drinks.

Belvedere Caffe is a stunning place to enjoy the view, open only seasonally.

Final thoughts

Bled is more than a destination, itโ€™s an experience. Whether youโ€™re strolling around the lake or climbing to a viewpoint, the town will remind you to enjoy simple pleasures of nature.

Every trail around Bled left me feeling refreshed, inspired and a little enchanted- exactly what a fairy tale should be.

I love this place! I explored Lake Bled two years ago, also in November, and even though some trails were closed for the season, it was still incredibly beautiful. Your post brings back great memories. I definitely plan to return during hiking season to enjoy all these viewpoints and trails properly!

Lake Bled and the Vintgar gorge are both so beautiful. The hike in the Vintgar gorge to the waterfall and back is well worth your time, at least we found it worth our time when we hiked it.
