The fascinating scenery of Lake Ledro offers an enriching experience of its popular neighbour, Lake Garda. Only 15 km from Riva del Garda and a little more from Limone, Ledro Lake is an Alpine paradise of the Trentino region.
With its crystal clear waters, you can enjoy swimming and plenty of sports such as kayaking. Bursting with hiking trails, it’s an ideal place for families and sports enthusiasts.
Amazing activities might not be enough for a day trip, though it brings such a soothing vacation full of fun. Basing yourself in lovely Rovereto will give you a chance to explore other stunning lakes of Trentino.
Catch the best view at the big bench
Truly feels fun to admire the view from the big bench, but it’s tricky to climb on its top. You can easily reach it from the lake and stilt houses, within 15 minutes of walking. Located inside the Best Ledro Camping, this glorious scenery cannot be missed. Your photos will be even more picturesque through the lens of the large wooden heart.
Other benches belonging to the awesome „Big Bench Community Project“ (BBCP) take place at Garda Lake, Iseo Lake, and similar places. This idea arose in 2010 thanks to the American artist Chris Bangle, who lives in Piedmont, Italy.
The story of Ledro bench appeared when the larch forest was razed to the ground.
Relax at the beach
The beaches of Lake Ledro are made to stop the day and enjoy the moment. Various water sports like canoeing, sailing or swimming are ideal for its emerald waters.
Pieve di Ledro is a lovely beach in the North-East with many different facilities. After having fun at a volleyball field and mini-golf park you can enjoy several bars and pizzerias.
Mollina di Ledro is the largest beach and easiest to reach, covering a cozy green lawn. It also has volleyball and tennis courts and a bar.
Mezzolago feels perfect to relax at its large lawn and picnic tables.
Among the lake’s four beaches, Pur is the most quiet with a playground, bar and pizzeria.
Explore the prehistoric atmosphere of the Palafitte Museum
Though it was pretty empty during my visit, the Palafitte Museum is a fantastic insight into the Bronze Age. Discovering the village as it looked like 4000 years ago dwells in Europe’s most important prehistoric site. Earning UNESCO recognition, you can visit the small huts that hold the original display.
Reconstructed in 2019, you can testify the remains of the ten thousand piles emerging from the lake.
Visiting a Museum requires a payment, but it’s free of charge with the Trentino Guest Card. Getting the Trentino Guest Card from my hostel in Rovereto secured me not only free transport but finding some hidden gems in the area.
Inspire yourself at the Ledro Land Art Trail
Culturally rewiring the forest with the collection of the creative works of art is the aim of this amazing trail. Within 30 minutes walking from the Palafitte Museum, this is a fabulous trail scattered in the pine forest of Pur.
The incredible creativity glorifies the wood art through the strange statues and propagates harmony with the environment. Originating in 2012 thanks to the Commune of Ledro, you’ll be inspired to make your own art. About 20 works enrich the trail that every year gets new natural sculptures.
Visiting the park is free of charge throughout the whole year.
Madonnina di Besta & its impressive views
You don’t have to hike far to reach the fascinating views of Ledro Lake. Besides the famous bench, Madonnina di Besta will reward you with incredible scenery.
Located about 50 minutes walking from entering the village of Mollina di Ledro you’ll see signs towards Madonnina.
Though I prefer the view from the gigantic bench, this also breathtakingly encompasses the whole lake.
Hiking in Ledro Valley
The Ledro Valley offers various trails to enjoy its picturesque scenery. Except the tour around the lake covering 10 km, you can choose more challenging paths.
From Rifiugo Garibaldi close to the village of Tiarno di Sopra follow the route to Malga Bezzecca. Taking more than 3hours, you’ll arrive to this mountain cottage and be ready to witness the cheese production in the summer.
Another amazing mountain hut or rifiugo to follow the trekking is Nino Pernici refuge. It’s a small hut with 30 beds lying close to the Tenno Lake.
Ponale Street offers an easy walk and panoramic views of the Garda Lake.
Visit the Gorg d’Abiss Waterfall
Among the 3 hidden waterfalls of the Ledro Valley, Gorg d’Abiss waterfall is the most attractive to visit. Close to the village of Tiarno di Sotto, Gorg d’Abiss waterfall perfectly blends with the Massangla river. Carved in a small cave, this waterfall is a true gem of the Ledro Valley.
Ampola waterfall is close to Lake Ampola, which has emerald waters. Palvico is a high waterfall in a quiet area, much closer to the Lake Idro.
If you’d like to explore more, the famous Varone Waterfall with its gardens lies close to Riva del Garda.
Villages of Ledro Valley
Though I visited only Molina di Ledro on the shore of the most stunning sights, it’s worth exploring the other villages. I would suggest staying longer on the lake, renting a bike or a car and enjoying the journey.
Molina di Ledro is home to a wonderful beach, the prehistoric Pile-Dwelling Museum and astonishing views.
Biacesa precedes the route from Riva del Garda where you can visit wonderful churches. Pré di Ledro lies in a basin causing the lack of Sun during the winter. Absorbing the tradition of shoe nails is such an authentic experience on the lake.
Pieve di Ledro as the center of the Ledro Valley hosts a large beach and a picturesque town. Concei is filled with wonderful meadows and woods covering three villages- Locca, Enguiso and Lenzumo.
It’s worth mentioning Tiarno di Sotto and Tiarno di Sopra with its waterfalls and churches.
Where to stay on the Ledro Lake
I visited Lake Ledro as a day trip from Rovereto so if you’re short on time and budget, consider it also. My hostel also offered me Trentino Guest Card which enabled me to have public transport for free in Trentino. Most of the museums were included in the Trentino Guest Card adequately.
Ostelo di Rovereto will delight you with its cozy rooms and breakfast buffet (it even has pistachio butter).
Hotel Cima d’Oro is a wonderful place in Molina di Ledro with a large garden and a swimming pool.
Da Elda Natural Retreat in Concei is surrounded by nature and picturesque views of the Italian Alps. It includes a stunning pool and spa activities.
A Panoramic Hotel San Carlo in Molina di Ledro enjoy a marvelous location along the lake. The terrace on the lake will indulge you in the dreamy atmosphere.
Final thoughts
With the treasure it brings, Lago di Ledro will recharge your batteries with artistic inspiration and relaxation. Such a hidden gem deserves your admiration as you discover its incredible sights.
Offering activities for every taste, you can enjoy wonderful walks and local products. Perfect for swim and kayaking, Lake Ledro is more than a day trip from Garda Lake or Rovereto. The opportunity for outdoor adventures will spoil you in the scenic atmosphere of Lake Ledro.
