You probably saw it when seeing publicities about Croatia, an enchanting beach of dreamy colours and gorgeous shine. Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) is an absolute paradise that inspires to visit lovely town of Bol. The stunning fact is that this incredible beach on island Brač changes its shape without the reason. Long time I fantasized to visit it and the first view was from above, from the highest peak at the island, Sv. Vid.
It’s not a sandy beach as many people would think, but a beautiful pebble beach. The crystal clear sea creates incredible colours not only on Zlani Rat beach, but on every beach in Bol town. Because of its nature, Zlatni Rat is crowded with people and activities. That’s why you should visit it in the off-season.

1. Zlatni Rat Beach has all- amazing caffes and restaurants, shadow & awesome activities
Covering 3,6 km Zlatni Rat beach seems to escape the shade, but it’s not like that. Besides many caffes and restaurants that hide in the shade, children can enjoy the acqua park and many sport activities. Surfers and the baloons above are extremely popular. In September during my visit, it was the perfect choice full of Sun. Because if such a treasure to fill your beach days, the season stays longer here.
There’s even a vegan bistro Biomania in two locations- both at Zlatni Rat beach and in the town center.
2. Amazing promenade towards Zlatni Rat beach
The touristic train goes from the sympatic Bol to the beach, all through the shady promenade. By foot it would take 20 minutes to reach Zlatni Rat beach. The shady promenade is the place to catch some inspiring photopoints and admire the stunning seaside colours. It’s the perfect place to relax near some creative sculptures. This was the time to be the queen of the sea at the stone chair.
3. Zlatni Rat is recognized widely as one of the most beautiful beaches
Several times the legendary Zlatni rat was got title of the most beautiful beach in the world. Thanks to the page Big 7 Travel and the English magasin Escapism, it’s something that Zlatni Rat deserves. Beside Zlatni rat, there are many quiet beaches on the promenade. The beach that is incredible by its shape is even more incredible with the colours of the sea that waves differently at each side.
4. Lovely town of Bol
This extraordinary place has a wonderful Mediterranean spirit at its cobblestone streets.
Hidden corners of Bol are full of surprises from the healthy ice-creams to the cozy shops.
The rich cultural heritage of Bol describes the contrast of architecture. The King’s stairs give honour to the Emperor Francis Joseph I since 1875, though being the most simple stairs. The House in house from the 19th centure is an abandonded place shows the social controversions. The smaller house serve a poor family, while bigger belonged to the richer.
Rich in cultural discoveries Bol offers a wide archeological collection inside of Dominican Monastery.
The vinery Stina at the centre of Bol with its largeness and anciety dominates the place.
The name Bol itself means Pain, which gives a lots of reasons for jokes.
5. Fabulous beaches in the whole Bol town and around
Not only Zlatni Rat offers the delight of the seaside colours and amazing enjoyment. Throughout the whole town you can find even quieter and warmer beaches.
Bijela Kuća Beach
Nestled near the charming Dominican Monastery, Bijela Kuća Beach (White House Beach) is a pure feast for your vacation. This picturesque beach is framed by the Dominican Monastery on one side and a fish restaurant on the other.
The abandonded hotel with awesome murals stretches above Bijela Kuća beach.
Bijela Kuća Beach lies about 10 minutes from the harbour and town centre.
Martinica Beach
Martinica Beach scatters in its smiling beauty on the other side of the Dominican Monastery.
This pebble beach offers no facilities, but a Monastery from the 15th century has a refreshing restaurant in its courtyard. The breathtaking colours and idyllic setting make Martinica beach probably the prettiest beach in Bol.
Borak Beach
Borak Beach is a cute beach, lying close to Zlatni Rat. Lovely restaurants create a stunning ambiance and you can enjoy numerous sport. The diving school near the beach enriches the vibe.
Murvica Beach
Murvica Beach is a secluded beach where the pure tranquility awaits. The village Murvica stretches above the beach, within 5 km from the Bol town. The amazing attraction of Brač, Zmajeva špilja (Dragon cave), lies in the close proximity of Murvica beach.
Paklina Beach- nudist beach
Only a short walk from the famous Zlatni Rat beach, this nudist beach offers breathtaking colours and quietness.
Slatina Beach
Another nudist beach hides in the marvelous embrace of the turqouise colours. It’s about 6 km from the Bol town.
6. Paradise for the sport lovers
Bol is the paradise for sport lovers as besides incredible beach with many water sports, in the nearby Potočine the tradition of tennis plays its game with 26 tennis fields.
7. Amazing views from the mount Vidova Gora
Spectacular views above to the most beautiful beach in Croatia can be found at the highest peak of croatian islands, Vidova Gora. Once I went there by the road seeing Zlatni Rat only in the fog but it was still spectacular. It can be reached by hiking or by bikes directly from Bol which is rather challenging route.
How to arrive
There’s a direct ferry from Split towards Jelsa (island Hvar), taking one hour to arrive to Bol.
Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Split to Supetar (capital of island Brač) which needs one hour to arrive. From Supetar take a bus to Bol, which is 35 km away.
You can also take a day trip from Jelsa or Vrboska at island Hvar (either by catamaran in 20 minutes or a touristic boat- catamaran doesn’t stop in Vrboska). Anyhow, there are many touristic boats from larger places like Makarska and Split, even Omiš.
Where to stay
Bretanide Sport & Wellness Resort-All Inclusive is a awesome hotel lying next to the promenade across Zlatni Rat Beach.
Lifestyle Hotel Vitar– is a fantastic choice offering stunning views to the seaside from its rooftop and infinity pool. It’s located between Bol and Zlatni Rat.

Final thoughts
The old proverb says- Don’t judge by the surface, but this beach is phenomenon. Except it makes Croatia special, Zlatni rat needs to be seen and experienced by your own eyes. The beauty it takes is scattered with so many colours of the sea, with the shadows of the beach and artistic shine. The life stays here in many different versions and nuances.

The water is lovely! And the surrounding mountains are a beautiful contrast. It reminds me of the crystal clear beaches of the Bahamian islands.
