Hiking with kids can be fun and educational experience. Beyond the fact that kids spend time in the fresh air, their parents have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Croatia. Here I represent 5 family-friendly hiking trails from the continental forests to the seaside views.

Inspiring you to discover some new gems, let’s feed your kids with the outdoor wanderlust.

With more than 20 stunning destinations for family hikes in Europe, I’m raising an idea to make an e-book about Croatian and European trails. I’ll include there more info, such as parking, accommodation tips and more. Be sure to check the beautiful Woodywalk near charming Bressanone at Plose mountain, if journey takes you to the Dolomites.

Family trip Hpd Gojzerica Požega

Starting near the museum Požega house, prepare yourself with the games, breakfast and ceremony with local guard. Just across the main square of Požega, you’ll have a chance to explore the center of Golden Valley.

Požega is a charming town lying between the 5 mountains/hills where pristine nature serves the way of life.

This family trail with Hpd Gojzerica has two branches, shorter and a longer one. Passing through the forests of Požeška Gora, it’s fun to be on the trail with other parents. While the shorter route is designed particularly for families, most of the people will choose the longer one. The shorter path will take you to the chapel of Vidova Gora with fantastic views of the local vineyards.

Along the longer trail, you’ll pass Sokolovac viewpoint and enjoy the town view.

Happening for the Požega day, come to celebrate the outdoor lifestyle in this lovely town of Slavonia.

Duration: 3-4km/1-2h- 2 paths, easier and more difficult one taking 7-8km/3-4h

Land art trail Učka, Istria

Land art trail at Učka, known as Stražica-Sapaćica is a fun way to experience nature and notice the details it brings.

Passing through the stone paintings, labyrinth and cute markations, you’ll experience the scenic beauty of Istria. This circular route unveils fantastic views with very little ascent and easily reachable by car.

With ecological paintings, stones look differently to imagine their presence anywhere on Earth. Thanks to the idea of Boris Pecigoš, this amazing trail exists since 2016.

On the way you’ll see 20 different artworks that will inspire your family to explore Ćićarija. At the stone playground you can even create your own piece of art. Raising awareness between human and nature is a principal mesagge of this trail, bringing more than the art.

Starting near the mountain hut Poklon, you cannot miss this wonderful trail perfect for kids.

Trakošćan castle & Ravna Gora

Trakošćan castle nestled upon the picturesque lake unveils the amazing Ravna Gora trail in its surroundings. With the picture-postcard images around the castle, you can visit only the fairy path around the lake. You wouldn’t want to miss Trakošćan castle on your Croatian vacation, being a highlight this country offers.

On the way you’ll see soft hills, paragliders and creative home decorations. Stopping by the painted mountain hunt Pusti duh brings moments to take pictures and enjoy the playground.

Another mountain hut, Filićev dom, offers an occassion to take some food and drinks.

Seeing plenty of flowers on the way will give your journey some extra value.

Premužić trail, Velebit

On the majestic Velebit stretches the Premužić trail, passing through 57 km with the scenic rocks, forests and seaside views. Being mostly a straight path, carrying the heavy backpacks makes it challenging through several days. You can choose a one-day hike, skipping the whole route.

Starting at Zavižan near the Botanical Garden and mountain hut, you will follow the fantastic rock formations. Here you will also find the oldest meteorological station in the country, which is very edicative for children.

Zavižan is also the highest peak on the trail with its 1630m. 2 hours away from Zavižan you will reach the Rossi shelter with the stunning seaside view.

The National Park Velebit is 16 km long, covering the incredible natural diversity.

Od Ivane do Tadije, Slavonski Brod

Happening in April, this is a cozy trail through the beautiful hills of Slavonia. Celebrating the famous Croatian children’s writer Ivana Brlić Mažuranić and the poet Dragutin Tadijanović, it’s 15 km long. Above the hometown of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, you’ll explore the pitoresque beauty of Dilj Gora.

Being mostly straight with few small ascents, you will need 4-5h till the starting point at the mountain hut Đuro Pilar.

Firstly, you’ll see the summer residency Brlićevac. After the soft views you’ll reach the birthhouse of Dragutin Tadijanović in Rastušje. In Šuma Striborova you’ll enjoy the magic forest with the children playground. You’ll see the painted trees and notice some story characters. Šuma Stroborova takes place above the village of Podvinje, beautifully changing the garbage depony.
